SC House gives Sanford stimulus solution

RICE BILL WOULD FORCE GOVERNOR, LEGISLATORS TO REMOVE $350 IN STATE GOVERNMENT WASTE FROM BUDGET With only hours remaining to seek South Carolina’s share of the federal stimulus package, Gov. Mark Sanford Thursday night decided to send the White House a letter certifying that the state intends to request the funds. That decision gave Sanford 75 more days to actually apply for the $8 billion. Sanford said he will request the bulk of that money, but will not apply for $700 million in stabilization funds unless legislators agree to cut as much spending from the state budget for use in paying down debt.
