South Carolina Banking Leaders Say Outlook Positive
The last time the banking industry suffered from so much bad publicity was when Henry Potter tried to put the screws to George Bailey in the holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” But, these days, banks are being blamed for just about everything that is wrong with the economy — from the stock market collapse to strangling credit. Not all banks are to blame, experts say — South Carolina banks, as a whole, are in good shape. Deposits are up, balance sheets are being strengthened, and banks are lending, partly because of an infusion of federal bailout loans.
